Earlier this century, Leon Vaganay expressed a widely-held view when he wrote that the Textus Receptus (TR) is ‘dead at last and, let us hope, forever’.1 In recent years, however, an increasing number of books and pamphlets have appeared which argue for a return to the Byzantine or Majority text, of which the TR is the chief printed representative, on the grounds that it more accurately represents the original text of the New Testament than does any modern critical edition.
